The Chevrolet Citation is a compact car that was sold by Chevrolet from the 1980 to 1985 model years in three bodystyles: a two-door coupe, three-door hatchback, and a five-door hatchback. Introduced in April 1979 as for the 1980 model year, the Citation replaced the Nova in the Chevrolet line.
As with the 1977 Caprice/Impala and 1978 Malibu, the Citation marked a dramatic downsizing at General Motors, this time of its compact X-body line. Still retaining the X-body platform designation, the new design was a complete redesign using front-wheel drive. The Citation was produced alongside the Buick Skylark, Oldsmobile Omega, and Pontiac Phoenix.
The Citation was dropped after the 1985 model year, ultimately replaced by the L-body Chevrolet Beretta coupe and Chevrolet Corsica sedan in 1987. In total, 1,642,587 Citations were produced
